Shutters or Blinds – Which are Better?

There are a number of ways in which you can dress your windows, which can make it all the more difficult to decide on the best kind of window covering – i.e. blinds and curtains or window shutters for your bay window and other areas.

Even if you’re torn between which one to get, we’re here to help. Let’s look at some of the key advantages and disadvantages of both at a glance, shall we?

Windows Shutters in the UK

Windows shutters, also known as plantation shutters, are a great way to update, improve and add value to your home’s internal and external aesthetics – providing as much elegance internally as kerb appeal.

Even though they’re more expensive than blinds for your bay window or blinds for bedroom, they are certainly an investment that can last you many years, even decades. They can be a very appealing long-term asset as they help you get a great price for your home in the future seller’s market.

Window shutters external or internal can accommodate windows of all shapes and sizes, no matter how unusual or intricate they may be. In town properties, privacy is always a concern, and if you have a street-facing window, they can offer more than ample privacy – allowing you to close off one section for privacy’s sake and leaving the other open to let some light and fresh air in. Not only that, but they also offer great acoustic insulation to a certain degree, helping you keep outside noise and nuisances on the outside.

Blinds and Curtains

Now, blinds – on the other hand – are considered a timeless window treatment that can easily fit just about any home aesthetic and décor, while also being fully capable of creating the kind of light control and temperature regulation that most home owners desire in order to stay comfortable.

Blinds and curtains are known for adding those signature straight and clean lines to almost any décor, and give a variety of home aesthetics an enhanced and modern feel. So, whether you own a rustic, modern, traditional or bohemian home, blinds and blinds accessories add a level of polish and aesthetic feel that ties the entire place together quite nicely.

Blinds for bedroom or blinds for bay window are available in a wide array of materials – with wood blinds offering a nice, earth-rich vibes and neutral tones providing a more modern feel. Plus, there are more than a handful of patterns, fabrics and colours to choose from which can add a lot of flair to any home.

Blinds cost generally less than window shutters, far less, in some cases, but there’s a caveat – they also last around a quarter of the estimated life of window shutters in the UK. Additionally, they are simply not as durable and require extra care as well as maintenance.

To sum it up

We believe shutters are a better investment, especially for the long term as they last a lot longer than blinds – the latter demands replacement every 10 years or so.

In the end, you’re the home owner, and you should pick what speaks to you.
